Chapter Fourteen – A Purple Necklace

“Do you have everything you need?” Matt asked Heather and Cindy as he handed each of them a brown paper bag containing their lunches he prepared.

“Yep,” they both replied in unison then giggled.

Matt drove the two girls to school while they both sat in the back seat laughing and giggling about who knows what. ‘I am just the help,’ Matt thought with a grin as they pulled up to the school.

“Bye Matt, thanks for the lunches,” Heather said as she crawled past the leaned forward front seat to get out of the car.

“Yeah Matt… thanks for EVERYTHING!” Cindy grinned at him with a wink as she got out of the car. The girls watched him drive away before heading into the school.

“So... is he fucking both of yall?” Kim asked Cindy as she and Heather met up with her just inside the school doors.

“KIM… Shhhhhhh.” Heather said looking around nervously as her face tried to match her hair color.

“Na…” Cindy lied smiling at Heather. “Me an’ Heather crashed in the other room.”

“Did Matt make lunch today?” Kim asked.

“Matt made ‘US’ lunch,” Cindy said boastfully.

“I still ‘ave the one he made me yesterday,” Kim replied sticking her tongue out at Cindy. All three girls burst out into synchronized giggling.

“Yeah, Matt knew that,” Heather grinned.

Cindy quickly looked inside her bag. “There’s a san’wich an a juice box an a ‘nola bar an a banana in here!” she exclaimed, then added with a sigh, “Matt really is a nice guy!” All three girls where smiling ear to ear as they entered home room.

The girls went their separate ways after school let out for the day, each heading for home. Heather walked into Matt’s apartment dropping her book bag at the table where she was planning on doing her homework assignments.

Heather never really bothered with homework in the past, she didn’t see the point. But she knew Matt wanted her to do well in school and keep up with her assignments, so that was enough motivation for her to try. She didn’t fully understand why, but she wanted to please him, make him proud. No… she didn’t want to make him proud, she had to. She dug through her backpack looking for a pen, or even a pencil would do.

‘Nothin,’ Heather thought with a sigh. After searching the apartment and coming up empty, she decided to head home to grab one. She knew there was some pens and pencils in her bedroom at home. Heather really did not want to go there while her mother was not home, but she could not see any other option.

The nervous tween opened the door quietly, and cautiously peered around the interior of the apartment. Buddy was nowhere to be seen, good! She quietly crept through the apartment to her bedroom, where she was sure she would find the pen she required. Digging through her stuff she finally found a pencil bag full of pens and pencils among other things.

Heather was grinning as she joyfully skipped towards the door, happy with the successful quest.
